Twitter is one kind of SNS(Social Network System) which is an online service built on the purpose of constructing social relations and sharing information. Inspired by SMS in cell phones, Founders created this service to allows users to post texts within the limits of 140 characters at a time. Twitter gained its name since the founders focused on their aim to enable people to share inconsequential information freely. Nowadays, There are more than 2 billion users all over the world and Korea is not an exception. In August, it was reported that the number of Korean users had reached 1 million.

In Korea there exists Cyworld which enjoys overwhelming popularity as one of SNS and that is why some people are reluctant to do Twitter because they consider it is waste of time to do two SNSs at the same time. However, Twitter is of a totally different kind. Cyworld generally belongs to SNS but deeper look at its function blurs the true meaning of SNS. Users cannot look at each other's contents unless they agree to form a ceratin relation called 'Il-Chon' and nobody will likely to accept the offer of 'Il Chon' by someone he doesn't know. On the other hand, Twitter indeed realizes the concept of 'constructing social relations' user can see all the contents in Twitter unless it is classified even without subscription. Moreover, They can decide to see other users' contents without permission and are informed of their postings in real-time.
