Kelly, I'm Evelyn.
Today my senior leader asked me to train my team members on some topics.
I should have said "Of course", but I said "Not a big deal"(meaning 'Yes, that's easy and I can do right away')
Is it wierd? How do you think she did understand by listening "not a big deal?"
Hello Evelyn,
Actually your answer seems to show that you are boasting or you are not considering your senior leader's position. Maybe it's
better if you will answer him like " Yes, sure I can do it, no problem", a simple but more formal answer. When you gave the
answer "Not a big deal" or even if you said "Of course" I think it will sound like you are talking
to your colleague with the same position as yours.
The way you will answer someone, specially in business or in the job depends on your relationship with them or their position in the company. People with higher position should be addressed with respect.
I hope I was able to answer your question. Have a great day!
